‘The class is the highlight of my week. It gives me a reason to get out bed in the morning. The group is so friendly and I enjoy the socialising’
Back in the Groove is a Community Interest Company delivering person-centred dance, fitness and exercise classes in Norfolk and Waveney. Our aim is to widen participation and enable more people to experience the physical and mental health benefits of movement.
Our sessions are particularly aimed at those who find it hard to access mainstream classes, such as people with long term health conditions. The range of exercise in our classes are particularly effective for those recovering from, or awaiting, hip/knee replacements.
We run public classes in community venues in Suffolk and South Norfolk and we are commissioned by health and social care providers to deliver one to one and group sessions with target groups and individuals. We also offer an outreach programme where we can visit your community group, health support group or sheltered housing to explain the benefits of exercise and movement in older age.
We want to remove barriers to exercise by providing sessions that are affordable, accessible and fun. The classes set achievable goals, catering for the needs, abilities and confidence of individual participants and concentrating on social and emotional well-being as well as physical fitness.
The emphasis is on developing confidence by increasing strength, stamina, improving balance and maintaining independence. Each class will offer an opportunity to socialise and connect with other participants.
Our instructors hold relevant teaching qualifications, are DBS checked, have undertaken safeguarding and first aid training and are fully insured. Instructors are members of EMD UK, the national governing body for group exercise leaders.
We are on Active NoW‘s Exercise Referral Register, enabling professionals to directly refer patients to our classes and making us part of Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care System’s (NWICS) coordinated approach to enhance physical activity levels.
Research has shown that affordability is one of the greatest obstacles to keeping fit, especially for older people, carers and people with disabilities. We are grateful to all our funders who support us and enable us to keep our classes affordable for all and to share the benefits and joys of movement.
